K | LEWIS WARD | OTTAWA REDBLACKS
Kicker Lewis Ward was a game-changer for the REDBLACKS in their home 28-15 win over Edmonton on Saturday afternoon.
Ward went a perfect seven-for-seven on field goals, adding a successful convert kick to his point total on the game.
The kicker from Kingston, Ontario broke the CFL’s single-season consecutive field goal streak with 33 in a row. He now has 37 successful field goals in a row, which is just two short of matching Rene Paredes’ all-time streak of 39 successful field goals in a row.
His field goals were made from 27, 32, 20, 40, 20, 40, and 22 yards, respectively. Ward also made a 32-yard convert kick in the fourth quarter after Greg Ellingson’s five-yard touchdown catch.
Ward has made 40 of his 41 field goal attempts in his first year in the CFL, scoring a total of 131 points for the REDBLACKS. He was previously named a Shaw Top Performer in Week 7.
QB | JONATHON JENNINGS | BC LIONS
Quarterback Jonathon Jennings steered the BC Lions to a nail-biting 35-32 victory over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Saturday evening.
Jennings recorded 346 passing yards in the contest, rushing for an additional 26 yards and throwing three touchdowns. He scored a 110.8 efficiency rating, going 32-for-47.
After a slow start to the game, Jennings got to work in the third quarter, opening with a nine-play drive that culminated in a 13-yard touchdown pass to Cory Watson.
In the fourth quarter, Bryan Burnham snagged an eight-yard pass for another major to bring BC into the lead after the successful convert.
With time expiring, Jennings tossed a 20-yard ball to Burnham in the endzone for a touchdown, following it up with a successful convert to tie the game and send it into overtime to give the Lions a chance to win.
Jennings has collected 1,081 passing yards in six games this year. He has seven touchdowns and a 67.7 completion percentage.
REC | BRYAN BURNHAM | BC LIONS
Receiver Bryan Burnham was a big part of the BC Lions’ comeback win at BC Place on Saturday.
The former Tulsa Golden Hurricane caught two touchdown passes late in the game to propel the Lions to victory; he also caught a crucial two-point convert as time expired to send the game to overtime. He recorded 90 receiving yards on 10 receptions.
Burnham’s touchdowns came in the final minutes of the fourth quarter. After snagging a 16-yard pass earlier in the drive, Burnham caught an eight-yard pass from quarterback Jonathon Jennings in the end zone to tie the game.
With just seconds remaining after a retaliatory Hamilton major, Burnham snagged a big 20-yard pass from Jennings for the score. With the Leos needing two points to advance to overtime, the native of Moorestown, New Jersey made an important catch for the successful convert.
Burnham has 720 receiving yards and is on pace for his third consecutive 1000+ yard season. He has seven touchdowns on 51 receptions.
