Shaw CFL Top Performers (5): Mitchell, Bowman, and Elimimian named

Wednesday, September 28, 2016 β€” TORONTO (September 28, 2016) – Bo Levi Mitchell, Adarius Bowman and Solomon Elimimian were named the Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Month for September of the CFL’s 2016 season.

Performer of the Month selection includes all appearances from Week 11 to Week 14.

The three players were chosen by a panel of judges who independently send their selections to the CFL head office. The panel includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN, and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

QB | BO LEVI MITCHELL | CALGARY STAMPEDERS

Bo Levi Mitchell was named a Shaw CFL Top Performer of the Month in back-to-back months after a perfect September that saw him lead Calgary to a 4-0 record, keep them atop of the West Division, and clinch a playoff berth.

During September Bo Levi Mitchell completed 103 of 149 pass attempts (69.1%) passed for 1,440 yards and connected for nine touchdowns.

During Calgary’s Mark’s Labour Day Weekend game Mitchell passed for a career-high 380 yards. He added two touchdown passes in the Stampeders’ 45-24 victory over their provincial rivals the Edmonton Eskimos.

In Week 12’s rematch in Calgary, Mitchell recorded three touchdown passes in the home team’s 34-28 overtime victory.

This season Mitchell is on pace to reach new career highs in passing yards, touchdowns, and completions. He is on a threatening pace to reach 6,000 passing yards.

Through 13 games, the Katy, Texas native has passed for 4,297 yards – good enough for second in the league, while his 24 touchdowns put him first in the league this year.

Mitchell has been named a Shaw CFL Top Performer in Weeks 6, 13 and 14 as well as Top Performer of the Month in August.

Mitchell leads the Shaw CFL Top Performers leaderboard with 585 points.

REC | ADARIUS BOWMAN | EDMONTON ESKIMOS

Adarius Bowman continued his torrid pace throughout September en route to being named a Shaw CFL Top Performer for the Month of September.

The 6’3” 217-pound receiver racked up 32 receptions for 444 yards and scored two touchdowns during Edmonton’s four September games.

Bowman matched a season-high with 10 receptions in Edmonton’s Week 12 game versus Calgary. He converted those receptions for 119 yards and had a touchdown in their loss to the Stampeders. The following week against Saskatchewan, Bowman had nine receptions for 152 yards. He notched 121 receiving yards on six receptions and added a major when Edmonton hosted BC, finishing the month on a three game streak of 100+ yards.

This season Bowman leads the league in receiving yards (1,400), receptions (95) and is tied for second with seven touchdowns.

LB | SOLOMON ELIMIMIAN | BC LIONS

Solomon Elimimian set a Lions team record in the month of September and racked up 30 defensive tackles, one quarterback sack, and nine yards in three games to be named a Shaw Top Performer of the Month.

The former Hawaii Warrior had an electrifying Week 11 performance against the Toronto Argonauts, collecting 14 defensive tackles to set a Lions team record. Not only did Elimimian make a quarterback sack on Ricky Ray, he also snagged an interception and gained nine yards.

Elimimian gained another six defensive tackles in Week 12 against the Montreal Alouettes, and after a bye week in Week 13, came back with a roar to make 10 defensive tackles against the Edmonton Eskimos.

The 2010 Most Outstanding Rookie and 2014 Most Outstanding Player and Most Outstanding Defensive Player currently sits second in the league in defensive tackles with 86, only three behind Bear Woods’ 89. In 12 games he has five sacks, one forced fumble, and one interception.
