It marked a single-game school record for points by the Vert & Or and dropped McGill’s losing streak to 22 consecutive games, dating back to the 2009 season.

The game was a tale of two halves, with Sherbrooke jumping into 13-0 and 30-0 leads over the first two quarters before McGill’s offence awoke. The Vert & Or led 44-14 after the third stanza and the only scoring in the final quarter was a safety for Sherbrooke conceded in the endzone by McGill.

Roch-Doyon completed 19 of 32 passes, directing an offence that racked up 521 net yards, compared to 251 by McGill. Sherbrooke also had a 25-14 edge in first downs, including a 17-2 margin in the first half. Understudy James Goulet of St. Joseph, Que., came on in the final period and was 4-for-6 for 65 yards.
Sébastien Blanchard, a second-year receiver from St. Sabine, Que., hauled in four passes for a game-high 149 yards, including TD receptions of 62 and 21 yards, respectively, which put Sherbrooke ahead 20-0 just four minutes into the second quarter.

Other majors for the Vert & Or were scored by Vincent Cleroux-Gaudreau (19-yard reception), David Dumas-Goulet (22-yard reception) and defensive back Olivier Goulet-Veilleux, who had 23-yard interception return for TD, along with eight tackles, one forced fumble and a knockdown.

Rounding out the scoring for the visitors was place-kicker William Dion of Drummondville, Que., who tallied 16 points, including a 3-for-4 effort in field-goals, connecting from 20, 16 and 17, respectively.
Sophomore Dallon Kuprowski of Kanata, Ont., started at quarterback for McGill but was relatively ineffective, completing 6-of-10 attempts for 74 yards and one interception. He gave way to senior Jonathan Collin in the second half and the 6-foot-4, 220-pound native of Greenfield Park, Que., was good on 12-of-20 for 121 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.

Trailing 44-0, McGill finally broke the goose-egg at 12:44 of the third quarter when Luis Guimont-Mota, a rookie running back from Quebec City, scored on a five-yard run. Mota collected a game-high 40 rushing yards on eight carries. The Redmen tallied again only 99 seconds later when they took advantage of a Sherbrooke turnover on the kickoff and receiver Sean Murphy of Ottawa snared a 10-yard TD strike from Collin.

McGill (0-2) will host the Mount Allison Mounties (0-1) in their annual “Fill The Stadium” game, an interlocking affair between the RSEQ and AUS conferences next Friday. Sherbrooke (1-1) travels to Halifax to confront the Saint Mary’s Huskies (1-0) on Sept. 15. Both games will be streamed online.
