SHOIRY, HAMEL AND MILO NAMED PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Quarterback Jean-Philippe Shoiry of the University of Sherbrooke Vert & Or, defensive back Julien Hamel of the University of Montreal Carabins and kicker Christopher Milo of the Laval University Rouge et Or, have been selected as the Quebec University Football League’s (QUFL) players of the week for the period ending October 24.

Highlights: Quarterback Jean-Philippe Shoiry completed 29 of 39 passes for 372 yards and five touchdowns as his Sherbrooke Vert & Or blew past the ninth ranked Bishop’s Gaiters 49-11 at Coulter Field on Saturday. The graduate student currently leads the QUFL in yards passing per game with 276.7 yards as well as the most touchdown passes with 13. With the win, the Vert & Or captured the season series between the two squads based upon their points for-against differential in head-to-head action.

Highlights: Montreal defensive back Julien Hamel set a QUFL record, and tied the Canadian university benchmark by intercepting four passes, two of them in the endzone in Montreal’s 21-14 loss to the Concordia Stingers last Friday night. The physical education and health student had 76 yards in returns on the four picks and added 5.5 tackles and a knockdown.

Highlights: Laval kicker Christopher Milo booted four field goals in the Rouge et Or’s 68-0 win over the McGill Redmen Saturday at Percival Molson Stadium in Montreal. He split the uprights from 21, 18. 32 and 21 yards out in addition to averaging 60.8 yards per kickoff and another 40.6 yards on punts. Milo is the current QUFL record holder for the most career field goals with 66 and needs four more to tie the existing CIS mark of 70 held by Western’s Frank Jagas. He is the all-time conference scoring leader with 369 points, ranking third overall in CIS history and holds the league record for the most converts kicked in a career with 148.
