Simcoe recruit felt embraced by SMU community

Simcoe offensive lineman recently joins AUS team’s 2015 class.

Tyler Dewaele is heading out to the Atlantic Coast to begin the CIS chapter of his gridiron career.

Recently, the Saint Mary’s Huskies announced the commitment of the 6’5, 326 pound offensive lineman from Brantford, Ontario.  Dewaele will join the team for the 2015 AUS season.

“We are extremely happy to add a student athlete like Tyler to the SMU football family,” commented Huskies Head Coach Perry Marchese.

Dewaele comes to the Huskies after playing for both the Waterford Wolves of the Norfolk Secondary Schools Athletic Association (NSSAA) and the Brantford Bisons of the Ontario Football Conference (OFC).

Ultimately, there were a couple of specific reasons why the offensive lineman wanted to commit to the Halifax, Nova Scotia team.

“I chose Saint Mary’s because I really wanted to go to a small school and that is just what they are,” explained Dewaele of his decision.  “Also their campus is awesome and you don’t have to go outside except for the athletic center.”

“Then, there are the people of Halifax who they are truly great in the fact that they are so nice and welcoming. Lastly, a big part is the O-Line Coach Kelly Ireland and Coach Perry.”
