Rakeem may have been relatively late to pick up football, not playing the game up until he was twelve, but has had a stellar career since he did. After just one year of house league ball he was quickly asked to play at the rep level where he joined the Toronto Thunder and also excelled, helping them win the COMFL championship.

He continued to play for the Thunder at the Junior Varsity and was also asked to play in the OVFL All-Star game.

ā€œAfter that season I received the Kerry Bowen Award,ā€ Rakeem says. ā€œI also was Wettges Conference Junior MVP.”

In grade eleven, Rakeem decided to play high school football for Sir John A. McDonald Black Scots, where he was named Team MVP. In grade twelve, he decided to stick to just high school football and did not rejoin the Toronto Thunder in order to focus on his grades. Rakeem was again named Team MVP.

Since then, his family has moved and he is now playing high school ball at Albert Campbell Collegiate Boars. His impressive play has garnered him attention for multiple schools and while he has not made a decision yet, he wants to do so sooner rather than later and is aiming for a roster spot south of the border.

ā€œIā€™ve talked to all CIS schools, but I plan to go to a junior college in the states,ā€ he explains. ā€œAfter junior college, I plan to attend an NCAA school.”

“I was offered a scholarship from Simon Fraser University and Michigan State showed some interest. Iā€™m open to any visits though and want to make a decision soon.ā€

It comes as no surprise to those who know him that Simms has had so much success in a short amount of time. Rakeem is extremely hard working, open-minded and appreciative of those who have helped him along the way.

ā€œThe most influential people in my life are my mother, my coaches, my teachers, my football trainer Anthony “wolf”, and last but not least god,ā€ says Rakeem. ā€œFootball is life to me and a lifestyle, everyday I strive for greatness.ā€

Rakeem’s talent can be seen when he again plays for the Toronto Thunder this upcoming season.
