Simon sets CFL career receptions record

TORONTO — Saskatchewan Roughriders receiver Geroy Simon became the CFL’s all-time career receptions leader today by surpassing former Montreal Alouettes receiver Ben Cahoon.

Simon caught his record-breaking 1,018th career reception on a seven-yard pass from quarterback Darian Durant during the first quarter of today’s game against the Alouettes at Molson Stadium.

CFL Commissioner Mark Cohon congratulated Simon on this remarkable achievement.

“Congratulations to Geroy Simon: a superb talent, valued teammate, consummate professional and now, one of the all-time greats.”

The veteran receiver will be honoured in a special pre-game ceremony at the next Roughriders home game on October 12. It was Simon’s preference not to have an in-game ceremony today.
