Laurier graduates among 46 OUA players to make the cut for the 2013 season
WATERLOO – Six former members of the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks are currently gracing Canadian Football League (CFL) rosters after the opening week of the 2013 season.
Shamawd Chambers (Edmonton), Yannick Carter (Calgary), Justin Phillips (Calgary), Alex Anthony (Saskatchewan), Courtney Stephen (Hamilton) and Shane Herbert (Toronto) are all representing the purple and gold at the professional level. They are among 46 former OUA athletes who are partaking in the league this season.
Week 2 in the CFL will feature a number of former Hawks going head-to-head on TSN. Carter and Phillips’ Stampeders will battle Anthony’s Roughriders on Friday night while Chambers and the Eskimos will face Stephen and the Tiger-Cats on Sunday. Herbert’s Argonauts will battle the BC Lions on Thursday night.
This 2013 edition of the Golden Hawks are just a month and a half away from getting their season underway when training camp opens on August 15. Laurier plays their season opener on the road against Guelph 10 days later on August 25 while the purple and gold’s home opener is scheduled for Labour Day Monday, September 2, against the Toronto Varsity Blues.
Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
