Six Saint Mary’s Huskies players selected in 2013 CFL Draft

OTTAWA – The Saint Mary’s Huskies led all CIS programs with six players selected. No other AUS players were taken. Calgary and McMaster followed with five apiece.

Carl Fitzgerald, a receiver from Peterborough, Ont., was the first AUS player chosen when he went 20th overall to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Fitzgerald had 18 catches for 184 yards and a touchdown during the 2012 regular season.

Linebacker Kyle Norris, was selected by the Edmonton Eskimos with the sixth pick of the third round, 24th overall. Offensive lineman Matthew Albright of Dartmouth and safety Neil King of Edmonton, both 2012 AUS all-stars, were chosen with back-to-back picks in the fifth round, 42nd and 43rd overall. Albright went to the B.C. Lions and King was chosen by Hamilton.

Brett Lauther, was the first pick in the seventh round by Hamilton and wide receiver Damone Blackman rounded out the AUS selections, going to Montreal with the 57th overall pick.
