SMU adds NCAA transfer (VIDEO)

Nova Scotia defensive back returns home to play in CIS, becomes AUS team’s first 2015 commitment.

The Saint Maryā€™s (SMU) Huskies have announced the addition of Andreas Robinson to their football program.

The 6ā€™0, 190 pound defensive back from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia redshirted last season with NCAA Division 2 team, Simon Fraser Clan.

“We are thrilled to have a student athlete like Andreas join our family,” commented Huskies Head Coach Perry Marchese. Ā “He is a going to be a tremendous student, player and ambassador for our program.”

Previous to the Clan, Robinson completed three seasons of high school football for Phillips Exeter Big Red in New Hampshire.Ā  During his time there, he was named Class ā€˜Aā€™ Offensive Player of the Year and Team MVP.Ā  He was also three-time first All-New England Team Selection and also a previous MVP runner-up (2010) as well as MVP nominee (2011).

Moreover, Robinson suited up for the Citadel Phoenix of the Nova Scotia Student Athletic Federation Football League (NSSAFFL).Ā  During his time with the Phoenix, he was named the team’s Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Other teams, the Nova Scotia standout has played for include the Timberlea Titans, Halifax Argos and the Halifax Chargers.

For his part, Robinson is looking forward to playing in front of the hometown crowd. Ultimately, the Huskies provided him an opportunity to thrive as a player while being surrounded by loved ones. Ā Additionally, it also allows the defensive back to extend his work on a special project he has been involved with the past few years.

“I am excited to be home and I am looking forward to taking the next steps at Saint Maryā€™s,” explained Robinson. Ā “It was a decision based on where I felt would be the best fit for me to grow and develop, both on and off the field.”

“One big factor for me was the opportunity to be back in Nova Scotia, around my family. Ā Staying in the city also enables me to continue working on a mentorship and motivational program that I have been developing within the school system over the last four years.”

Also, the defensive stanout was swayed by the strength of the academic program he intends to pursue as well as the traditon of excellence the Huskies football program has demonstrated throughout the years. With his commitment to the Huskies it is a dream come true to have the opportunity to don the Huskies uniform this fall.

“Aside from being my familyā€™s alma mater, St. Maryā€™s has a great Business program, a growing international culture, and a historic football program,” added Robinson. Ā “I grew up in Nova Scotia watching the Huskies play at the national level. I already know some of the players and there are some great coaches here, and lots of potential!”

“I am excited to be here and see how I can contribute..Being a Santa Marian feels right and I am looking forward to September!”

Robinson will be eligible to play this fall in the CIS.Ā  Furthermore, he has four years of CIS eligibility remaining.
