SMU reunion awaits Ontario recruit

Ontario defensive back/slot receiver joins AUS team

Saint Mary’s Huskies have announced the addition of Dylan John to their football program.

The 5’11, 170 pound defensive back (safety)/slot receiver will join the team for the 2015 AUS season.

Among the teams John has previously suited up for include Huron Heights Warriors of the York Region Athletic Association (YRAA) and Newmarket Bucs of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL).

In 2014, he was selected as an YRAA and OVFL All-Star.

A native of Kincade, Newfoundland, John moved to Scarborough, Ontario soon after. Recently, he was residing in Newmarket, Ontario.

“We are extremely happy to add a student athlete like Dylan to the SMU football family,” commented Huskies Head Coach Perry Marchese.

There were several reasons why John chose the Halifax, Nova Scotia campus.

“Becoming a Husky felt like a great fit for me; I like the direction there programs heading in and their coaches I’ve interacted with so far have been great people,” explained John of his decision.  “So I’m excited to see where I’ll fit in the program.”

“Also, there are many alumni players from my early days at Huron that are currently playing at SMU; I love the chance to reconnect with those guys. I’m excited to potentially have a chance to room with my best friend Mike Del Tin who has recently signed with SMU as well. In the long run, I’ll maybe have more opportunities to develop relationships with my family down that way; maybe even learn a little bit more about my native reserve ties in Newfoundland.”
