- Two Canadians signed with NFL squads this week. The first to do so was CFC100 WR Brayden Lenius with the Falcons. Lenius broke out this past season with the Saskatchewan Roughriders after slimming down from his previous TE-like build throughout the COVID pandemic to become quicker, which certainly worked. The young 6β5β, 220lbs receiver had 37 catches for 471 yards this past season and the Falcons clearly see the upside in him. The other youngster to sign an NFL contract was CFC100 DE Jonathan Kongbo, who signed with the Broncos. The 6β5β, 265lbs lineman had 16 tackles and 3 sacks this year as a rotational end for the Grey Cup Champs
- In the past couple weeks, a couple Canadian CFLers have also garnered significant interest from NFL squads. Tiger-Cats FB/TE Nikola Kalinic has worked out for the Seattle Seahawks, Tennessee Titans, New York Giants, New Orleans Saints, and Green Bay Packers. Blue Bombers OL and 2021 West Division All-Star (who hasnβt played a season without winning the Grey Cup while in the CFL) CFC100 Drew Desjarlais has worked out for the Seahawks, Saints, Patriots, 49ers, and Bengals.
- A couple Canadians in this yearβs class may very well hear their names called at the 2022 NFL draft, and look to continue the trend of Canadians making waves upon league entry. Alabama CFC100 WR John Metchie III had a 1000-yard receiving season this year with the national runner-ups following his 2020 National Championship campaign where he had over 900 yards. The quick and gritty receiver was on the rise and very likely going to be a first-round pick in this yearβs draft until he tore his ACL in the SEC Championship, but this week he announced he will still enter the draft, where he definitely shouldnβt fall further than Day 2. CFC100 LB/DE Jesse Luketa has received invites to both the Senior Bowl and the NFL Combine coming off his best season with Penn State. The 6β3β, 250lbs edge rusher had 61 tackles, 8.5 TFLs, half a sack, and a pick-sixΒ following a partial position switch to DE this year and will likely be a Day 3 pick.
