Spartiates reunion

CEGEP defensive back recently commits to RSEQ team.

Malu Bakasa and Ron Hilaire will be reunited once again.

This time, it will be on the CIS stage.Β  Recently, the 5’10, 185 pound defensive back from Montreal Quebec committed the McGill Redmen for the 2014 RSEQ season.

β€œRon Hilaire is the new defensive coach and he was one of my former coaches at Vieux- Montreal,” commented Bakasa.Β  β€œI’m so happy to have him back and I’m certain that his experience will help our team throughout this season and the ones coming.”

Not only will Bukasa be following in family footsteps, but his bond with Redmen Offensive Coordinator Pat Boies also played a role in his decision.

β€œI wanted to follow the footsteps of my cousin Gerry Sasa who played and graduated from McGill,” added the Quebec defensive back. β€œMy good relationship with Pat Boies, my offensive coach that I knew from the past encouraged my choice.”

β€œHe is a man with a big heart.”

Overall, academics and the strength of the football program were decisive factors in Bukasa’s choice.

β€œI chose McGill because of school,” said the defensive standout.Β  β€œI wanted to study in a school that would allow me to excel in my future life.”
β€œI wanted not only to be surrounded by football players but good students.Β  Our new coaching staff helps our team in all their aspect teaching, recruiting and performing in the field. Β Β I know that athletically it’s a good program that will help me develop my full potential very soon and academically, it’s very good and it will help me have a good career after football.”

Bakasa recently suited up for CEGEP Division 1 team, Vieux-Montreal Spartiates.Β  Among the other teams he has played for include St. Leonard CougarsΒ  of the Ontario Football Conference (OFC) in the Canadian Junior Football League (CJFL) and high school squad, Dalbe-Viau Aigles d’Or.
