‘Speed Kills’ for RB Kwak

Speed kills.

The oldest saying in sports perfectly describes running back/safety Bryan Kwak. It is the reason he got into football. ā€œIā€™ve always been a fast kid, and my friends told me I could use my speed in football, so I checked out a high school football spring camp, and I fell in love with the sport,ā€ says Kwak.

Kwakā€™s love for the game only grew after his otherworldly dream-debut. ā€œI scored two touchdowns [ā€¦] my first ever game JV game,ā€ says Kwak.

This talented athlete uses his combination of speed and power to make plays on the football field. For those reasons, he plays running back and safety, two positions where athleticism meets attitude.

ā€œI love playing running back because I can really use my speed to get around people, carry the ball, and Iā€™ve gotten stronger so I can use my power to move the ball. I love playing safety because I can also use my speed on defense, and I love intercepting and tackling with my aggression. Iā€™m a very competitive guy, so I always aim to be the best, and I also work very hard to get what I want,ā€ says Kwak.

Kwak is a smaller player standing in at 5ā€™9, 170lbs, so he knows that to make it to the next level, heā€™ll have to put on some weight. ā€œI think I need to get some size, but also increase my speed. I will do a lot of speed and weight training at the gym, and also get more experiences in [a] defensive position so Iā€™ll be able to play anywhere,ā€ says Kwak.

Football is more than just a sport; it is a second family. Part of the head coachā€™s responsibility is to take kids and mold them into young men ready to take on life. ā€œCrocus Plains head coach and defensive coordinator Rob Dinsdale taught me how to be a better person on-and-off the field. He is also the one who trained me with weight training and pushed me to be a better athlete, and he also motivated me with school, so I work hard to get good grades. I wouldnā€™t be who I am today if he didnā€™t mentor me,ā€ says Kwak.

Coach Dinsdaleā€™s mentorship helped Kwak earned the running back MVP honors at 2017 Manitoba Top Prospects Combine.
