StFX lands ’15 #CFC100 recruit

Toronto offensive lineman joins AUS team’s 2016 class.

StFX X-Men have announced the addition of Jonathan Zamora to their football program.

The 6’3, 285 pound offensive lineman from Toronto, Ontario is a #CFC100 CLASS 2015 ranked prospect. Zamora will join the team for the 2016 AUS season.

“Jonathan Zamora has really taken a blue collar approach to things and we are excited about that, he will be a great addition to a strong offensive line culture we are building here at X,” commented X-Men Head Coach Gary Waterman about the newest addition.

The offensive lineman began playing at the age of six.  He has played for the Oshawa Hawkeyes of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) and most recently attended Canadian Prep Academy where he suited up for the Raiders.  Among the honours he’s received during his career include Team MVP, Offense MVP, Team Captain (four seasons) and Most improved Awards.

Academically, Zamora graduated with honours, the Governor’s Award and top of his class.

Jonathan Zamora commitment

For his part the #CFC100 CLASS 2015 recruit chose the X-Men because he felt at home and was impressed as well as comfortable with the team, especially the coaching staff.

“St. Francis Xavier is one of those schools that when you think about the first thing that comes to mind is family, not only on the team, but in the community,” elaborated Zamora of his commitment.  “Their program is on the rise and I want to be an impact to that rise once season comes around.”

“I know this group of guys have their mind set to the end goal and are willing to grind to be the best. Those are the type of people you need to surround yourself to be successful. Finally, I just wanted to give a shout out to the coaching staff, because they were a big part in making my decision, knowing you will be coached by top notch coaches is truly a blessing.”

X-Men Offensive Line Coach Dave Van Den Heuvel is looking forward to working with Zamora in future years.

“Jonathan is a physical offensive lineman that we believe will be a great fit in our scheme,” assessed Van Den Heuvel.  “He does a great job running his feet on contact and finishing his blocks.”

Ultimately, the X-Men are ecstatic about landing a recruit that they have had their eye on for quite some time.

“Jonathan is a player that we identified a long time ago; we remained in contact with him and continued to build,” recalled X-Men Offensive Coordinator Steve Snyder.  “The time finally came for Jonathan to come to the CIS and we knew StFX was a perfect fit for what he is looking for.”

“We are thrilled to have him in the white and blue.”
