StFX’s Dylan Hollohan invited to CFL evaluation camp

ANTIGONISH, NS *– X-Men football defensive back Dylan Hollohan has been invited to the 2012 CFL evaluation camp being held March 2-4, 2012 in Toronto. The annual camp serves as an audition for draft-eligible players in front of coaching staff from all eight CFL teams.

β€œWe are extremely proud of Dylan,” comments StFX football head coach Gary Waterman. β€œHe is a natural athlete with a high football I.Q. who possesses tremendous work ethic. We are excited for him and know that he will represent the X-Men family very well.”

Hollohan receives the invite despite missing the 2011 AUS football season due to a groin injury. A leader on the X-Men defense, Hollohan also saw time on special teams as a punt returner. The 5’10”, 183 pound Engineering student from Moncton, NB was named a CIS second team All-Canadian in 2009. He was the conference leader in interceptions with five in 2009, and was twice named an AUS all-star in both the 2009 and 2010 football seasons.

Hollohan has played every position in StFX’s defensive secondary and is one of the conference’s most dangerous kick returners. His presence was missed this past season and he is eager to return to competition. β€œI can’t wait to get back to playing football and I consider myself extremely fortunate to have been selected for the E-camp,” says Hollohan.

β€œIt was disappointing to sit out the year, but I am back to training 100% and am really looking forward to the opportunity to compete for a spot at the next level. I can’t thank my coaches, teammates and the training staff enough for preparing me for this event over the last four years.”

When he was last on the gridiron during the 2010 season, Hollohan appeared in six of eight AUS regular season games before missing the final two games due to a concussion. He had 24.0 tackles and one interception and returned a missed field goal 119 yards, the second longest missed field goal return in StFX history.

Hollohan participated in the 2011 CFL Combine and was a captain for the East team at the 2011 East-West Bowl, the annual game which showcases draft-eligible CIS athletes. During the 2010 NFL Pro Bowl Week in Florida, Hollohan competed in an international game as a member of Team World in a game against Team USA. The World team roster featured the best players aged 19 and under from IFAF member countries. Hollohan recorded five tackles in the game and a forced fumble.

At the upcoming CFL evaluation camp, Hollohan will be following in the footsteps of former X-Men linebacker Henoc Muamba who was drafted first overall in last year’s CFL entry draft by the Grey Cup finalist Winnipeg Blue Bombers. The 2012 CFL evaluation camp is scheduled for March 2-4 in Toronto, with the CFL draft slated for May of 2012, with the specific date yet to be confirmed.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
