Stoney Creek recruit signs with York (VIDEO)

Stoney Creek OL joins OUA team’s 2016 class.

Even though Braedon Ashford will be starting his CIS career in the same province, he will be moving to a new city.

Recently, the 6ā€™3, 244 pound offensive lineman from Stoney Creek, Ontario signed with the York Lions.Ā  Ashford will join the team for the 2016 OUA season.

Overall, the strength of both the academic and football programs were the major decisive factors in his decision as evidenced during his official visit earlier this fall to the campus.

ā€œThe reason I chose York was because they have one of the best business schools in Canada,ā€ elaborated Ashford.Ā  ā€œAlso, their team has a tight bond on and off the field.ā€

ā€œThey seem like a family, when I went there for a visit back in September I felt like I really connect with the school and the team. When I got there I thought it was home and when I met the team I felt like I was a part of the family. Plus, Coach [Warren] Craney is an amazing coach coming from coaching Team Canada. He will help me get better as a student and an athlete.ā€

During his career, the offensive lineman has suited up for both the Saltfleet Storm of the Hamilton-Wentworth Intercollegiate Athletic Association (HWIAA) and Hamilton Ironmen of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL).Ā  On the offensive line, Ashford has played at both the tackle and guard positions.

With the decision now made, Ashford can focus on the next chapter of his career and is ecstatic about joining the Lions.

ā€œI believe their football program is one of the best in Canada because they have great coaches and trainers that coach you up and help you get better every day,ā€ expressed Ashford.
