22 degrees and a gusty breeze provided the perfect day for the second game of the rivalry between Saint John Afterburn Storm and Fredericton Gladiators in MWFL action Saturday.
Both teams defenses went to work in the first quarter and held the others offenses scoreless. Then in the second quarter Fredericton drove the length of the field only to meet the Storm’s goal line stance on the one yard line where the Storm took over on downs. That’s when Lori Boyles took the pitch from Lisa Harlow and went 109 yards for the touch down. Maygun Mullett converted.
Fredericton came right back on a 15 yard TD of their own but the Storm blocked the kick. The storm with less than 3 minutes left drove the ball down the field and QB Lisa Harlow took it the final 4 yards for another TD and Mullett converted to put the Storm up 14-6 at the half.
In the third Harlow hit Kristie Perry on a 57 yard pass for a TD and Mullett remained perfect to go up 21-6.
Fredericton came on strong in the 4th quarter with Chatterton and Black scoring TD’s but both converts were missed and the Storm won 21-18.
