Surrey recruit feels Carleton ‘right environment’

Surrey offensive lineman newest recruit to join OUA team’s 2015 class

Carleton Ravens have announced the addition of Jesse Lawson to their football program.

The 6’6, 280 pound offensive lineman from Surrey, British Columbia will join the team for the 2015 OUA season.

Lawson comes to the Ravens after completing a stint with Langley Rams of the British Columbia Football Conference (BCFC) in the Canadian Junior Football League (CJFL). Previous to the Rams, Lawson suited up White Rock Titans.

Recently, he participated in the 2014 International Bowl in Arlington, Texas as a part of Team Canada’s Junior National Team roster.

“Jesse comes to us with experience at the junior level which is great,” commented Ravens Offensive Coordinator J.P Asselin.  “With his size and athleticism, we feel his potential is very high and that he will be a great contributor on our team sooner than later.”

“He’s already proven he is a university caliber student by successfully taking university classes back home. We couldn’t be more excited to welcome Jesse to the Ravens family.”

For the past year, the British Columbia lineman has forged a relationship with the Ottawa, Ontario football program.  Ultimately, the opportunity to experience a new adventure in another province as well as a chance to excel on the field is what prompted Lawson to commit to the Ravens.

“I’ve been in contact with Carleton for about a year now, so I’ve had plenty of time to make the right decision,” explained Lawson of his decision.  “Carleton’s a very young team, so I feel that will put me in the right environment to develop over the years with the rest of my teammates.”

“I’m also very excited about getting the chance to move to Ottawa and experience living outside of BC where I’ve lived my whole life.”
