British Columbia lineman becomes fourth CFC TOP 100 player to join OUA team’s 2014 class.

A CFC TOP 100 offensive lineman will move out East to commence his CIS career.

On Tuesday, Aarmin Purewal verbally committed to the Western Mustangs for the 2014 OUA season. The 6’5, 265 pound standout from Victoria, British Columbia knew he wanted to be part of the Purple Reign soon after his official visit to the London, Ontario campus.

“I choose Western because of how I felt once I arrived on the campus and how I was treated by the team and the coaches,” recalled Purewal of his visit.  “Coach (Greg) Marshall and Coach (Chris) Bertoia treated me as one of their own and that made me feel very comfortable.”

“Having Brian Dowds there made the decision easier, I played community and high school football with him and he was always like brother to me.”

Moreover, academics and the continual strength of the football program weighed heavily in the British Columbia lineman’s decision to the commit to Western.

“The coaches at Western stress academics really hard and yet are a top caliber football team each year, which really factored in my decision,” added Purewal.  “The strength of the football program at Western is also very good.”

“After working out at the great facilities with the strength coaches, I knew I would be able to reach my potential soon.  After taking all my visits, I knew Western was the place for me – a place I could become a better football player and help win games.”

This past fall, Purewal guided the Mount Douglas Rams of the British Columbia High School Football Association (BCHSFA) to their third consecutive Provincial ‘AAA’ Championship title. For his exceptional play in 2013, the British Columbia standout was selected as a Provincial All-Star, Western Conference All-Star and Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman.

As for the Mustangs, the team is thrilled to have Purewal become part of the fold.

“We’re very pleased that Aarmin decided to pursue his degree at Western and join our football program,” commented Mustangs Recruiting Coordinator and Offensive Line Coach Chris Bertoia.  “Aarmin had an outstanding career at Mount Douglas, he was a contributing member to three provincial championships, and his efforts were recognized this year when he was named a Provincial All-Star.”

“Aarmin has the frame, athleticism, skill set and internal drive to be a contributing member in our football program.  His potential is through the roof and I’m very excited to have the opportunity to coach him here at Western.”
