Team BC (British Columbia provincial under-18 team) will open the 2011 Football Canada Cup tournament on Saturday, July 9, 2011 facing Team Manitoba at 12 pm PT (1 pm MT) at the University of Lethbridge Community Stadium in Lethbridge, Alberta.

β€œWe are looking forward to a great challenge at the Canada Cup tournament,” said Team BC head coach Tom Kudaba. β€œOur mini-camp in Calgary has gone well and we feel confident about the opportunity to perform well and represent our province with pride.”

This year marks the second consecutive year that British Columbia has fielded a team at the Football Canada Cup. Prior to making a return in 2010, British Columbia did not participate in the tournament from 2001 to 2009.

Despite the lengthy absence, Team BC finished third at the 2010 tournament held in Nova Scotia capturing the bronze medal. Team BC concluded last year’s tournament with a record of two wins and one loss.

Manitoba finished the 2010 tournament in sixth place finishing with a record of one win and two losses.

The winner of Saturday’s game between British Columbia and Manitoba will face the winner of the game between Ontario East and Quebec on Tuesday, July 12, 2011. The winner of the game between BC and Manitoba will also be guaranteed an opportunity to play in a medal game on the final day of the tournament on Friday, July 15, 2011.

British Columbia and Manitoba did not face each other at the 2010 tournament. Saskatchewan finished first at the 2010 tournament defeating Quebec in the gold medal game.
