Ten Alberta Football Players to Join the IFAF World Team 2012


Football Alberta is proud to announce that ten U20 players from Alberta will be joining the ranks of the International Federation of American Football (IFAF) World Team 2012 that will take on the top graduating high school players from the United States in the third International Bowl to be held at 5:00 p.m. (CST) on Wednesday, February 1 at Kelly Reaves Stadium in Austin, Texas. The game will be broadcast on CBS Sportschannel in the US and at this time it is unknown the availability in Canada. February 1st is also Signing Day in the US for college recruits and Team USA will hold their players signing ceremony that morning which will be broadcast on ESPNU.

The USA holds a 2-0 advantage in previous games played including last years 21-14 victory also held in Austin. Over 100 players from all over the world are invited to Austin with 46 making up the Main Roster of the World Team (that will play in the game) and 61 being placed on the Development Team (with hopes of making next years Main Roster). Four players from the Development Team will be selected to join the Main Roster for the game. We’ve attached the World Team rosters but specifically the Albertans who are going are (listed with current team and H.S. Team):

Jordan Arkko (OL) – University of Saskatchewan (Harry Ainlay H.S. in Edmonton)

Sukh Chung (DL) – University of Calgary (played H.S. in B.C.)

Jahlani Gilbert-Knorren (QB) – University of Saskatchewan (Harry Ainlay H.S.)

Sean McEwen (OL) – University of Calgary (Notre Dame H.S.)

Connor Ralph (LB) – University of Alberta (Raymond H.S.)

Development Team Players:

Tanner Doll (LB) – University of Calgary (St. Albert H.S.)

Nathan Mitchell (DB) – Paul Kane H.S. in St. Albert

Rees Paterson (DB) – Archbishop Jordan H.S. in Sherwood Park

Ryan Smith (WR) – Edmonton Wildcats (Bev Facey H.S.)

Troy Weissbach (DL) – Bev Facey H.S. in Sherwood Park

The players will report to Austin, Texas for a training camp at Westlake H.S. (former H.S. of Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints) on January 26th for a six day training camp prior to the game. IFAF is the officially sanctioned international body for American Football globally with 59 member countries. 17 countries will be represented in this game.
