The Simple History of Canadian Football  

When most people visit Canada, they are showered with Canadian kindness and are into tasty French cuisines such that they forget to check on other cultures! Canadian football is an example of a century-old culture; most visitors speak less about it! But for locals, there is nothing sweet as watching Canadian football today and tomorrow gaming wild poker at Wildz casino!  

We may understand that French colonizers crowned Canada its national language, while tasty maple syrup is native to Canada, but where did their football come? Canadian football shares a bad history with its colonizers, the French and Brits! But it is said soldiers are the ones who brought the game to Canada.  Actually, nobody understands how people played Canadian football in the backdrop of a warzone, but today we are going to give you a great history of Canadian football.  

Early days  

Different sources conflict on the origin of Canadian football. Some suggest it was established before the 1850s, while others say it came to the limelight on the sunset of the 19th century! In the 19th century, Britain soldiers came with their rugby skills to Canada.  They played rugby in a “military way” in their free time by using extra force to dominate the game.  

This new game required more protection, stamina, and speed in order to secure a victory. This is just the earliest form of Canadian football; however, records show that on November 9, 1861, the first match was held at Queen’s Park. One year later, First Battalion Grenadier Guards held a game at Montreal Cricket Ground vs. Second Battalion Scot Fusilier Guards.  Grenadier won by three goals and two rouges to nil.  Although the rules were unclear, it was crystal clear that Canadian football was forming! 

The first governing body was established on February 7, 1984, and it was named Canadian Rugby Football Union (CRFU). This body was formed with a specific purpose to organize the playoffs of now growing popular Canadian football between unions.  CRFU later reorganized into an umbrella organization and changed its name to Canadian Rugby Union (CRU).   

Professional football  

Canadian football profession began almost six decades after its invention in 1909. The Governor-General of Canada Earl Grey kick-started professional football by donating a trophy for CRU championship winners. This competition was open to all-league teams. As time went by, players started turning their gaming hobbies into professionalism to secure handsome remunerations and the trophy.  

In 1958 Canadian Football League was formed, and this clearly advertised a professional football league was molting. The same year the first game was held between Edmonton Eskimos, and Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Eskimos were thrashed 29-12. To date, the Grey cup under CFL is the highest priced prize in Canadian football.  

From simple, homemade entertainment sessions participated by military personnel to the highly prized game with millions of fans, Canadian football has evolved greatly. In its early days, nobody believed Canadian football would erase the war’s experience and grow into a multi-billion entertainment hub. Thanks, Governor-General Grey; today, players train very hard and align their lives with gaming at least to secure a win because there is a good prize at the end of the tunnel.
