Warriors make it official, announce 2017 class

2017 Warriors football recruiting class positional breakdown: 8-OL, 6-DL, 2-RB, 5-LB, 3-FB/H-Back, 7-DB, 5-REC, 2-QB

The Waterloo Warriors football program officially welcomed 38 players into the Warrior football family on Sunday afternoon at their third annual “Warrior Football Meet The Team” event as a part of their spring camp.

This year’s recruiting class includes nineΒ players from Waterloo Region that will wear the black & gold.Β  Included in this group are District 8 MVP Justin Henderson and two CFC (CanadaFootballChat.com)Β CFC100Β recruits Riley Vandehogan (OL) and Gordon Lam (REC) who returns to the region from R.I.C.C. Prep.Β  Henderson and Vandehogan are two of seven Waterloo region league all-stars to commit to the Warriors. Along with 36 recruits from Ontario the Warriors added one player from British Columbia, and one player from Manitoba.

The 2017 recruiting class includes fourΒ CFC100 players, in addition to local products Lam and Vandehogan, the Warriors added top rated andΒ CFC100Β QB Tre Ford and DB Tyrell Ford, the dynamic and electric twin brothers from OFSAA champion A.N. Myer in Niagara Falls will excite Warrior fans for years to come.Β  The 2017 recruiting class adds size to both sides of the line of scrimmage.Β  This recruiting class addresses a continued need for skill position athletes with speed and athleticism.

The 2017 recruiting class is no stranger to success; individually and more importantly team wise.Β  The class includes 12 OFSAA Bowl Champions, 19 League Champions, and threeΒ OVFL Champions.Β  Individually, the 2017 recruiting class has four CFC Top 100 players, eight former members of team Ontario, three league MVP’s, 24 league all-stars, and nine team captains.

Head Coach Chris Bertoia and Recruiting Coordinator Darrell Adams are both excited about the character and talent of this group.Β  This recruiting class addresses positional needs, creates depth and competition between like-aged student-athletes.

“Our recruiting has addressed our need to get bigger and faster; we were able to secure commitments from some dynamic athletes, players with speed.Β  We’ve also addressed our size, depth and competition needs on both sides of the line of scrimmage,” said head coach Chris Bertoia.

“We have a a very good group of young student-athletes who will be successful in the classroom and on the field, the future is looking better today for the Waterloo Warriors football program.”Β stated recruiting coordinator Darrell Adams.

Excitement for the 2017 season began three months ago; the Warriors will continue to carry the positive momentum of their building process as they work towards the kickoff of their regular season on Aug. 27, 2017 at the University of Β Windsor Lancers.
