Right at home

Ontario defensive standout newest recruit to join OUA team’s 2014 class.

An official visit sold an Ontario standout on his decision regarding where he will embark the next chapter of his gridiron career.

Consequently, Malcolm Thompson is the latest recruit to commit to the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks for the 2014 OUA season.

“When I went for my visit to Wilfrid Laurier University, I felt at home,” recalled Thompson.  “I could tell that they really liked me and I was their main priority, to me that made me feel great.”

“I just loved the whole atmosphere. They aren’t as big as other universities but they have the best fans and supporters than any other school, I believe. I did not want to stay in the city of Windsor and I love the city!  The players really made me feel at home when I talked to them and so did the coaches.  I like how it is a smaller community.”

The 5’11, 180 pound defensive back/slotback born in London, Ontario recently completed his high school career with Holy Names Fighting Knights of the Windsor and Essex County Secondary Schools Athletic Association (WECSSAA).  For his stellar play this past fall, Thompson was named a WECSSAA 1st Team All-City Player. Additionally, he suited up for the Essex Ravens of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL).

The Golden Hawks are thrilled to have landed a player with tremendous talent and experience such as Thompson.

“Malcolm is one of the most sought-after defensive backs in Ontario this year and we are excited that he chose to further his education and play football with us here at Laurier,” commented Golden Hawks Head Coach Michael Faulds. “Malcolm is coming off of terrific seasons both in the OVFL with the Essex Ravens and in high school with Holy Names.”

“He will come into training camp this August and compete right away at free safety and defensive halfback.”
