Three blowouts in BC in Week 9 of CJFL


Week 9 of the British Columbia Football Conference saw three lopsided scores as the Vancouver Island Raiders, Okanagan Sun and Westshore Rebels recorded wins.

In Kamloops the Rebels won their second straight and fifth of the year with a 43-30 victory over the Broncos.

The Rebels would use their potent run attack gaining 269 yards on the ground. The reining offensive player of the week running back Greg Morris once again led the way with 12 carries for 110 yards and two touchdowns. Niles Goguen proved to be a lethal 1-2 punch carrying the rock six times for 75 yards and two majors.

160 yards of the Rebels 416 yards of total offense came through the air. Starting quarterback Cat Todorovich was six of 12 for 128 yards while back-up Mark Black was two of three and had a touchdown pass to Vinnie Cannata.

Defensively the Rebels were led by Samuel Narkaj who had six tackles and a sack while Michael Hansen had a pick.

The Broncos kept things close with 294 yards of total offense. Quarterback Jesse Neufeld finished nine of 24 for 121 yards and a 25 yard touchdown strike to Nick Bogert.

The Broncos β€œD” would do their part forcing four turnovers including a fumble recovery for a touchdown by Brandon Sayer.

The Rebels sit third in the conference at 5-4, while the Broncos fall to 1-8.

In other BCFC news Vancouver Island Raiders quarterback Jordan Yantz set a new CJFL record for career touchdown passes with four more to give him 85 in four seasons.

The Raiders beat the Langley Rams 56-19, while the Okanagan Sun beat the Chilliwack Huskers 48-21.

The Ontario Football Conference played four games this past weekend. On Friday night the Hamilton Hurricanes beat the visiting London Beefeaters 42-5 at Ivor Wynne Stadium. Saturday afternoon at Keith Harris Stadium in Ottawa the Sooners outlasted the Twin Cities Predators 26-19. The St Leonard Cougars defeated the Burlington Braves 35-15 at Stade Hebert and the the Windsor AKO Fratmen shut out the Brampton Bears 41-0 at Chinguacousy Park.

Edmonton Wildcats 51 Edmonton Huskies 25

Wildcats pivot Jordan Olson completed 15 of 20 passes for 334 yards and 5 touchdowns as the 2-5 Cats downed a Huskies club that has now dropped 31 straight games. Receiver Andrew Johnson had 10 grabs for 182 yards and scored 3 majors. Tailback Shiane Runcie also had 3 touchdowns as he had 106 yards along the ground.

The Cats defense stymied Huskies pivot Trevor Erdmann in the opening half as he went 0 for 9 passing. Erdmann would score a third quarter touchdown and dash for 64 yards. Tailback Skyler Sargeant ran the rock 15 times for 96 yards.

Saskatoon Hilltops 48 Winnipeg Rifles 28

Hilltops slotback John Trumpy had 5 catches for 180 yards and 3 touchdowns as Saskatoon ran their record to 7-0 versus the 3-4 Rifles, wrapping up a 4th straight regular season title.

Regan Schuler improved his grip on the conference rushing lead as he ran for 141 yards on the day.

Rifles slotback Derek Dean reeled in 7 passes for 148 yards and Alex Vitt took over the PFC receiving lead as he had 5 catches for 99, giving him 605 yards on the year. The clubs combined for over a thousand yards of offense.

Regina Thunder 32 Calgary Colts 19

At Mosaic Stadium, Thunder pivot Wyatt Catley returned to the lineup after missing last week’s game with a concussion as he passed for 265 yards and 2 touchdowns as the Thunder moved into 3rd place in the conference at 4-3.

The Thunder defense held the Colts to a mere 99 yards of net offense and tied a PFC record for safeties in a game as they forced Calgary to concede 4 times. Saskatoon set the standard in a 1983 game, while the Wildcats tied it in a 2009 game.
