TNT Express wins OMFL championship


Third time’s a charm for the Bantams The TNT Express Bantam football team won its first Ontario Minor Football League (OMFL) Championship on Saturday, Aug. 7, defeating a strong Hamilton Steelers squad 28-8.

TNT Express running back Brian Palmer-Ellerby led all scorers with a pair of touchdowns, while running back Bryan Deans and cornerback Hayden Bristow each recorded single touchdowns.
Kicker James Bickerstaffe also contributed with two good converts, but it was the TNT Express defence that stole the show by effectively shutting down the Steelers offence at every turn.
Mitchell Johnson led the way for the TNT Express defence with five quarterback sacks and a fumble recovery.

Other Steelers turnovers were recorded by defence lineman John Mason who made a fumble recovery, while defensive backs Hayden Bristow and Kevron Caines each recorded a pass interception.

The TNT Express defence even contributed to the scoreboard by forcing a Steelers safety.
This was the third year in a row that the TNT Express squad has advanced to the championship finals, but the first time the team savoured the joy of a championship victory.

The TNT Express coaching staff says it’s proud of the effort and commitment the players showed throughout the year, adding that the team’s hard work paid off in the end.
