Most NFL players shifted to CFL for the betterment of their career. CFL, which is the Canadian Football League is a professional football club where one of the top competitions are held. The league is held in the City of Canada and includes nine teams. Here are the top NFL players who played in CFL.

Mervyn Fernandez

Fernandez won the CFL’s Most Outstanding Player Award in 1985. With 95 catches- 1,727 yards for an 18.2 yards per reception average and 15 touchdowns. Fernandez was famous from 1982 to 1985 for a Western All-Star four straight seasons. In an interview he mentioned that: “It’s a league that you can hone your craft in, keep playing some good football and hopefully get noticed or picked up by one of the NFL teams if you so choose, Some guys prefer to stay in Canada.”

Cameron Wake

The 38- year old defensive player won the Defensive Player of the Year in 2007. He was also known as All-Pro in 2012 as he made the Pro Bowl 4 times. He told a part of his story to the media: β€œI’m the same guy, or I was the same guy when I got here in 2009 that I was at Penn State. I didn’t have a growth spurt or go do anything dramatic. More or less, I’m the same guy. Do you know? I mean, this is me. I kind of laugh to myself and say, β€˜Whatever the process is, I figured out a way to slip through the cracks. But even then, I knew I was a tremendous football player. I knew I could get the job done. But getting somebody to give you that opportunity, well, that’s probably the most difficult thing I’ve had to deal with. I’ve shown somebody made a mistake.”

Warren Moon

In the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Moon is the only African American quarterback. Warren Moon is one of the best NFL players who went to the CFL. He was known 21,166 yards and 144 TDs and got five consecutive championships. One time he threw 70,553 yards and 435 TDs

Moon said. β€œThere’s a lot that goes into playing quarterback in the NFL, and there’s a lot more that we have to deal with. I always wished that I could have had someone like me to talk to when I was coming up. But the truth of it is, there weren’t any of us like that back then.”

Mike Vanderjagt

Known as the one with the most accurate kicker and field goal kicker, this guy ended his career in the CFL. The player from Michigan State University played as both the punter and placekicker and also helped the Argos in winning the 1996 and 1997 Grey Cup. Then he was named the All-Pro in 2003.
