Two different leagues. Two different countries. Same mission. The NFL and the CFL leagues have seen several crossovers over the years motivated by performances. Many footballers who intend to revive their careers have switched from the NFL to the CFL while others have done exceptionally well in the CFL and have switched to the NFL. Some of these switches were made before this site came into existence. However, for the next transfers, the site provides every latest NFL and CFL news you need to know. For this article, we outline the top NFL stars that played in the CFL:

  • Brandon Browner

Brandon Browner comes as one of the greatest CFL and NFL successes. The quarterback played for the Calgary Stampeders and in four seasons, he was a 2008 Grey Cup Championship winner and was a 3x CFL All-Star.

Enter Seattle Seahawks who signed him before the 2008 season. Brandon would go ahead to win two consecutive Super Bowls in 2013 with the Seahawks and 2014 with the New England. This ranked him as the 5th NFL player to win two consecutive titles with different teams.

His life outside football, however, saw him sentenced to eight years in prison after admitting to the attempted murder of his former girlfriend.

  • O.J. Brigance

O.J. Brigance played for the BC Lions in the CFL from 1991 and in three seasons, he had played 54 games for the team. In 1993, he was a CFL West All-Star after recording 20 sacks. He would later join Baltimore Stallions where he played for two seasons and in 1995, he won the Grey Cup and was a CFL All-Star thanks to the 7 sacks he recorded.

He made the NFL switch in 1996 with the Miami Dolphins and the next year, he joined the Baltimore Ravens. He would play a great role in helping the team win the Super Bowl in the year 2000 thanks to the 25 special teams tackle. He went on to play for St. Louis Rams and had his final game with the New England.

  • Fred Biletnikoff

Fred was a huge football name in the 60s. In between 1965 and 1978, he played in the AFL and the NFL with the Oakland Raiders. His career would only be with the Raiders where he helped them clinch the Super Bowl X1. Throughout his career, Fred recorded 589 catches for 8974 yards and joined the Professional Football Hall of Fame. In what was a surprise, the Raiders released him in 1978.

He remained a free agent up until the 1980-81 season where he joined the Montreal Alouettes. He played one season for them but recorded great numbers (38 catches for 440 yards and 4 touchdowns).

  • Jeff Garcia

Jeff Garcia’s journey started at the CFL as a QB with the Calgary Stampeders. He won the Grey Cup, was named the game’s MVP, and was a 4x West All-Star before joining the San Francisco 49ers.

He would stay with the 49ers for four seasons between 1999 and 2003 but would struggle to land on long-term deals throughout his NFL stint. In 2011, he would retire in Houston but went down as one who holds the longest touchdown pass record at 99 yards alongside Andre Davis.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
