Queen’s football head coach Pat Sheahan is pleased to announce that top recruit Doug Corby of Burlington, Ont. has signed a letter of intent to play for the Gaels starting in the 2012 season.
βIt is my pleasure to announce the signing of Doug Corby from Nelson High School in Burlington, Ontario,β said head coach Sheahan. βDoug was a part of a highly explosive offence and he was a major contributor to the success of that team.β
“We have had a great tradition of outstanding receivers here at Queen’s and I think that Doug is going to be a tremendous addition to our program. The fans of Kingston are very excited to see him work out come August and we think we’ve got a good one here, one of the top offensive players in the nation and he’s a freshman.”
Corby is a 6-foot-2, 175 pound receiver who joins the Gaels out of the Nelson Lords football program. He was considered one of the top receiving recruits available this year. As a Halton Tier One All-Star, Corby led the Lords to a Golden Horseshoe Bowl Championship and was the primary offensive target on a Nelson team which was ranked the top team in Canada by Canada Football Chat.
“From day one here it felt like family, they have a great coaching staff and a great football tradition and it just felt like home,” said Corby. “I want to come in right away and be a big part of the receiving corps and become a go-to guy.”
He is looking forward to joining a young and exciting offence led by fellow Burlington native, Billy McPhee. “I’m very excited. I’ve heard many good things about Billy and to know next year I get to do it, I’m just ecstatic about it.”
Corby is set to enroll at Queen’s for the 2012-13 school year.
The Gaels will kick off their 2012 season when they host the York Lions on Monday September 3 at Richardson Stadium.
Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
