Toronto recruit hopes to “put SMU back on the map” (VIDEO)

Toronto defensive back joins AUS team’s 2015 class.

Saint Mary’s (SMU) Huskies have announced the addition of Alijah Wilson-Agosto to their football program.

The 5’11, 205 pound defensive back from Toronto, Ontario will join the team for the 2015 AUS season.

“We are extremely happy to have Alijah join our football family,” commented Huskies Head Coach Perry Marchese.

Wilson-Agosto has suited up both the Agincourt Lancers of the Toronto District Secondary School Athletic Association (TDSSAA) and the Scarborough Thunder of the Ontario Varsity Football League.

Overall, the defensive back felt it was time for a new gridiron and academic adventure in a different province. Once he arrived in Halifax on an official visit to Saint Mary’s, the rest was history.

“I was most excited to have a change of scenery,” expressed Wilson-Agosto.  “I’ve been in Toronto all of my life and have wanted to spend my four years of university somewhere else.”

“When I went to Halifax, I fell in love with it. Coach Perry was very interested in my life outside of football as well. Going in after a bad season as last year’s kind of settles the nerves a bit. There’s nowhere to go but up. I hope to be an impact player first year and for the many years to come contribute to put SMU back on the map.”

While he has tried several different gridiron positions during his career including running back and quarterback, Wilson-Agosto has his sights set to follow in the footsteps of a recent Huskies player and CIS Defensive Player of the Year.

“I’m hoping to put on some more muscle and turn myself into a SAM to replace Jay Langa,” offered Wilson-Agosto. “I’m really excited to be a Husky!”
