Toronto unveils recruiting class of 2017

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues football program is proud to announce the recruiting class for the 2017 season.

“Our incoming class is a good mixture of offensive and defensive players who can make an immediate impact and become mainstays in the program for years to come,” said Varsity Blues head coach Greg Gary. “This class is a good representation of our renewed national recruiting focus and even includes a few key international recruits.”

Here are a few key players to watch this upcoming season:

Offence:

Connor Ennis (QB)
Ennis brings a wealth of experience and knowledge coming from a Division 1 FBS program. The Washington State transfer has the leadership and physical tools to become an elite talent in U SPORTS football. Ennis has a winning pedigree, as he was instrumental in turning around Gonzaga High School in the Washington, D.C area. He is able to make a lasting impact on the program as he has multiple years of eligibility and will bring professionalism to a young offence and quarterbacking core.

Will Corby (WR)
Corby is a dynamic playmaker and has the chance to compete immediately as he joins a receiving corps that graduates three seniors. He comes from Nelson High School in Burlington, a perennial powerhouse that won the 2016 OFSAA championship. Corby has big play ability and uses his entire 6-foot-3 frame to stretch the field.

Cisco D’Cunha (OL) & Spencer Goodfellow (OL)
D’Cunha and Goodfellow are two offensive lineman coming from the Kingston area. D’Cunha is a prototypical tackle with his 6-foot-8, 335-pound frame. He will push a veteran offensive line group and has the potential to anchor the line. Goodfellow is a technically advanced interior offensive lineman who has the leadership ability to play centre. He has the requisite knowledge to contribute early.

Defence:

Brandon Vanneste (DL)
Vanneste is a gifted young athlete from Exeter, Ont. He brings good size to the position and will use his 6-foot-4 frame to contribute to the defensive line. He has great leadership potential and has already shown the motivation and drive necessary to succeed at the university level.

Zach Folan (LB)
Folan is a dynamic linebacker from Calgary, Alta. The University of Toronto has had recent success at the linebacking positon and Zach looks to continue this tradition. At 6-foot-3, his exceptional football instincts make him a favourite to contribute early in his career.

Makenzie Stephens (DB)
A recurring theme among the defensive recruits is exceptional physical attributes. Stephens fits this profile as he is a 6-foot-2 defensive back from Coquitlam, B.C. He has several outstanding characteristics, however, it is his ability to be physical and finish tackles that makes him stand out.
