Board turned down funding Trojans’ OFSAA Bowl appearance

While the West Ferris Trojans were participating in the OFSAA Bowl Festival last week, they did so without financial backing from their school board.

At a meeting on November 26th, the Near North District School Board made the decision not to give the Trojans the $2000.00 that was needed to cover costs associated with participating in the Bowl Festival.

The board’s response as to why they could not cover the costs was that there was simply no money to cover the team’s expenses as the board is going through financial woes.  However, the board has a $142 million dollar budget to work with.

Upon hearing the news, two anonymous individuals came forward and expressed interest of providing funds so the Trojans could go to the OFSAA Bowl Festival.

This year marked the first time in 15 years a team from the Near North has earned a berth into the Festival. However, the team lost to Toronto District Secondary Schools Athletic Association (TDSSAA0 representatives Richview Saints in their Bowl game by a narrow 12-10 margin.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
