Troop, Koch lead Axemen over X-Men in preseason victory

Earlier today, the Acadia Axemen came out of Antigonish with a 19-15 victory over the ST.FX X-Men in an exhibition tune up prior to the start of the AUS season.

At halftime, the Axemen enjoyed a 14-8 lead over the X-Men.

2012 AUS Rookie of the Year Thomas Troop (Alliston, ON) ran into the end zone for a four yard major.Β  Rookie quarterback Darcy Lavoie (Ottawa, ON) connected with second year receiver Jordan Koch (Bedford, NS) for a three yard touchdown reception.

Fourth year Axemen pivot Evan Brown (Hubley, NS) was perfect on the field as he had six completions in six attempts for 61 passing yards while rookie Cody Cluett (Dartmouth, NS) had nine completions in 15 attempts for 125 passing yards.

As for the X-Men, pivot Clayton Masikewich (Calgary, AB) connected with Devon Bailey (Mississauga, ON) in the second quarter of the game for a 67 yard touchdown reception.Β  In the last play of the game, rookie pivot Ryan Hosegood (Winnipeg, MB) connected with Zach Benson (Brockville, ON) for 25 yard major. Second year quarterback Tivon Cook (Barrie, ON) had six completions in nine attempts for 58 passing yards.

The defending AUS champions will begin the 2013 AUS season on the road as they battle the Saint Mary’s Huskies in Halifax on Friday September 6th, 2013.Β  Kickoff is 7:00pm at Huskies Stadium.Β  Meanwhile, the X-Men will host the Mount Allison Mounties on Saturday September 7th in Antigonish.Β  Game start is 7:00pm.
