Twin Cities Predators pummelled by AKO Fratmen

The Twin Cities Predators’ Keaton Jones provided a lone bright spot in an otherwise gloomy game against the Windsor AKO Fratmen, in which the Fratmen throttled the Predators 52-7.

Jones returned a Windsor punt for 115 yards to score the Predators’ only touchdown near the end of a busy first quarter in which Windsor had already put 14 points on the board. QB Cory Prince made the extra-point with a kick in place of regular kicker Charles Smith, who sat out the game due to injury.

Windsor’s attempt to go for it on third down resulted in a turn over to start the second quarter, but the spark of momentum created by Jones was soon extinguished as Prince’s next pass was picked off by Windsor’s Andrew Lewandowski.

The Preds’ were plagued by penalties and injuries throughout the game, while the Windsor starters racked up the points. Perennial CJFL Player of the Week Beau Lumley brought in two of the four touchdown passes completed by QB Christian Hackney in the first half.

Hackney found Shayne Rice for a touchdown just 1:40 into the second half, and Joel Archer for his second major of the game a short time later. With each of Dan Colella’s extra point attempts good, Windsor had sealed a 43-7 lead by the end of the third quarter, on five completed touchdown passes by Hackney, who tallied 295 yards in the air.

Prince had some solid passes to get something started in the fourth, but came away empty handed from a third down attempt, while the Fratmen added to their lead with a safety, and finally, a touchdown by Shayne Stadey from a pass by second-string QB Theo Stevens, followed by the successful single point.

Saturday’s game was the first in OFC history to be live-streamed on the internet for out-of-town viewers, thanks to a huge effort by AKO Fratmen game day operations and media coordinator John DeNapoli.

β€œI would like to thank ALL involved in this monumental step for the CJFL, OFC, and AKO,” DeNapoli said following the successful telecast. The first-ever live stream brought in more than 300 hits, with up to 66 viewers tuned in at one time.

The Predators will face the Ottawa Sooners in the nation’s capital on October 1.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
