Two BC commits join the Mustangs

Western brings in two out-of-province commits for their 2017 class.

The Western Mustangs have hooked themselves two west coastĀ commits, and for Sean Foulkes, a left tackle from Handsworth Secondary and Elliot Beamer, an offensive lineman from Vancouver Secondary School, it mustā€™ve taken something big to get them to move across the country.

When Sean Foulkes walked onto the Western campus, he fell in love with what the school had to offer. ā€œI loved Western. I felt really welcome there and I wanted to be apart of their family. Itā€™s an amazing school for academics and I was super impressed with the coaching setup. I really enjoyed my time there,ā€ he said.

ā€œThe coaches at Western are the nicest guys. They made me feel a part of the family. I also really wanted to work with Coach Circelli. I feel like the Western coaching staff will help me improve and I wanted to play for their program,ā€ he added.

Starting in 2014, he won three-straight Linemen of the Year awards. He was also the 2016 BC Pacific Conference all-star and North Shore all-star. While at the University of British Columbiaā€™s spring camp in 2016, he was named the most outstanding lineman.

With all his successes, the potential Kinesiology student said, ā€œReally thankful for the support Iā€™ve had at Handsworth from my coaches and my peers.ā€

Elliot Beamer spent his high school playing with the West Vancouver Highlanders (BCHSFL). The product of Bowen Island, BC, was drawn out east because of Westernā€™s coaches. ā€œI had a good connection with the coaching staff. I loved the school and they are a great team. The coaches are great. They seem to be very involved and supportive in their playersā€™ development,ā€ he said.

Beamer, who is 6ā€™3, 250lbs, will be pursuing a degree in Education. In 2015 and 2016, he was a Conference All-star and a Provincial All-star in 2016. He is an honour roll student who has maintained a 95% average.

He will be a long way from home this upcoming school year, but Beamer is ready. He said, ā€œI’m grateful for all the opportunities my coaches and the coaches at Western have made available for me.ā€
