A CEGEP standout and an American gridiron talent are among the newest additions to an OUA team.

Hunter Kobus and Edouard-Andrew Joseph have both committed to the Windsor Lancers for the 2013 OUA season.

Commits Hunter Kobus

HUNTER KOBUS:

The 6’1, 235 pound defensive end from Macomb, Michigan has special, sentimental reasons for bolting north of the border for the next stage of his football career.

“I chose to play football for the University of Windsor because Windsor is a part of me,” explained Hunter.Β Β  “I was born in Windsor and lived there until the end of fifth grade when I then moved to the United States.”

Moreover, he was sold on the Ontario university after he met with coaches and liked what the school had to offer him as well as the Lancers football staff’s approach to recruitment.

“Meeting with the coaches, they really stressed the academic side of the college experience by making it a first priority,” said Hunter. “The coaches emphasized all the possibilities of what the University of Windsor can offer me as an athlete and as a student.”

“They made the recruiting process a family process by involving my parents along the way, making it a not just my decision but my families as well. Along with that, I also have family members that are alumni from the University.”

Not only does he feel fortunate to become part of a great football program, but he is looking forward to contributing to the Lancers future success on the field.

“The University of Windsor has a very well rounded football program,” added Hunter. “They’ve had great success in recent years and I feel that it’s a place I can go to play ball and win games, and ultimately have a shot at the conference championship.”

“I am grateful for the opportunity the University of Windsor has given me, and I’m looking forward to playing and helping bring the goal of a championship closer.”

The defensive standout most recently played for his high school team, the Utica-Eisenhower Eagles.Β  Hunter registered 44 tackles, 24 assisted tackles, two sacks, three pass deflections and seven tackles for a loss in 11 games with the Eagles in the 2012 season.

As for the Lancers, the team is thrilled to have a player of Hunter’s calibre join the team.

“Hunter was born in Windsor, he has lived in Michigan or most of his life, including his entire high school career at Eisenhower,” commented Lancers Recruiting and Special Teams Coordinator Steve Snyder.Β  “Hunter has a motor and plays with great instinct.”

“He comes from one of the top football programs in the entire state of Michigan. We were fortunate enough to visit his school and meet some coaches and players and officially sign Hunter. It was a great day for Windsor Lancer football and the Kobus family.”

Commits Edouard-Andrew Joseph

EDOUARD-ANDREW JOSEPH:

The 5’11, 205 pound linebacker from Montreal, Quebec chose the Ontario school due to a combination of academic and football factors.

“I chose Windsor because they have my program social work and I love the honesty of the coaches and the mentality of the team “EMBRACE THE GRIND”,” explained Edouard-Andrew.Β  “I know that I will have to earn my spot nothing is going to come easily and I definitely want to be challenge because I know that is going to make me tougher.”

“I had the chance to meet with some of my new teammates and everybody had been good to me and they all told me that at the University of Windsor each player is important to the program they have a strong sense of fraternity and I love it.”

“I also like the fact that the Lancers have produced a lot of CFL players.”

Edouard-Andrew joins the Lancers after a stint with CEGEP’s Beauce Appalaches Condors.Β  Throughout his career, the Quebec linebacker has been fortunate to have many coaches who’ve guided him to success on the field.

“All my high school coaches especially Coach Casseus and Coach Mike have been a big influence in my development from junior year in high school to now,” said Edouard-Andrew.Β  “I still talk to them and I always love to visit my high school show love to the young players on the rise.”

“One of my CEGEP coaches,Β  Coach Nazon is the one that made me realize that leaving your family for a couple of years is a temporary pain when you’ll come back you’ll see it . He’s also the one that have been with during the whole recruiting process and I wouldn’t be here without him.”

With Edouard-Joseph’s commitment, the Lancers hope that this paves the way for other CEGEP standouts to follow suit in the future.Β  The team is excited to have a physical playmaker come into the fold.

“We like Joseph’s maturity level; he is coming from CEGEP in Quebec, he plays physical and he’s versatile,” commented Snyder.Β  “He fit in right away on his visit, and we knew it was the perfect match.”

“We are excited to have signed Joseph, we think this can open to door for more French speaking CEGEP players to consider Windsor.”
