U of S Huskies announce recruiting class

University of Saskatchewan Huskie football head coach Scott Flory announced his second recruiting class Thursday at the Holiday Inn and Staybridge Suites Dogs’ Breakfast.

Flory unveiled 39 new faces that will don the green and white beginning in 2018.

“Everyone around the football program is excited for the 2018 season, players, coaches, staff and fans,” said head coach Scott Flory. “I am really excited to see this outstanding group of big, fast and athletic recruits compete this weekend. They will make us better and it’s going to be exciting to watch their growth.”

The new recruits and the rest of the Huskie football squad hits the field in spring camp tonight at 6 p.m. at Griffiths Stadium in Nutrien Park. The annual green and white scrimmage is slated for 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

Recruits Quick Facts…

Of the 39 recruits, 18 come on the defensive side of the ball and 21 on offensive side.

The Huskies continue to add plenty of homegrown talent with 22 of their 39 recruits playing their high school football in Saskatchewan and 12 in Saskatoon.

Five of the recruits wore provincial colours at the 2017 Football Canada Cup.

Eight recruits played in the Canadian Junior Football League with four from the four-peat Canadian Bowl champion Saskatoon Hilltopsthree from the Calgary Colts and one from the Regina Thunder.

The Huskies added 11 recruits from Alberta – 10 from CalgaryFour the of Calgary recruits hail from the St. Francis Browns – the provincial high school finalists.

Six more recruits are from out of province – three from Manitobatwo from British Columbia and one from Ontario.

Two of the recruits have kept it in the family – Avery Dunster joins his cousin Sam Baker, while Joey Trumpy follows in the footsteps of older brother, John, to play with the Huskies.
