U of T lands 4 more recruits looking to crack their roster


Four additional football recruits have signed letters of intent to play for the Varsity Blues football program, while committing to pursuing an education at the University of Toronto in the fall of 2010.

β€œAll four student-athletes that have committed are great additions and fit right in with the Varsity Blues football program,” said Toronto head coach Greg DeLaval. β€œThey are all excellent students and talented football players. The have demonstrated the same work ethic on and off the field, which is a big part of being a football player at the University of Toronto.”

Brampton natives Justin and Jordan Marra have both made the decision to attend U of T this September and are the latest set of twins to don the Blue and White. Cory Kennedy graduated in 2009, while twin brother Kyle is still a member of the team and will graduate in 2011.

Students at Robert F. Hall secondary, the twins both play the linebacker position, however, Justin has also played defensive end, while Jordan has spent time as a defensive lineman.

Former members of the Brampton Bulldogs, the Marras were also members of Team Ontario and have earned several team and individual awards throughout their young football careers.

While at U of T, Justin looks to study humanities while brother Jordan’s main focus is history.

Holy Trinity high school student Brandon Clarke is a wide receiver and return specialist who will look to add depth to the Blues in both areas. The 5-foot-11 Oakville native is not short on scholastic accolades. He is set to start commerce this fall and has applied to U of T’s prestigious Rotman School of Business.

Clarke was the school’s 2007 special teams MVP and the recipient of the Applause Award in back-to-back years (2007, 2008).

As a member of Christ the King Jaguars football team, Nick Witczak of Georgetown, Ont. earned the 2008 most improved player award. A future U of T physical education and health student, Witczak is a 2009 Ontario Scholar and in search of a spot on the Varsity roster for Labour Day’s season opener against the Windsor Lancers.

Students who sign a letter of intent and commit to Varsity Blues intercollegiate teams will be eligible to play at the University of Toronto provided they are academically admissible and have applied through the normal process with the Ontario Universities Application Centre.
