Acadia Axemen quarterback Cody Cluett is the Atlantic University Sport football offensive player of the week for the week ending Sept. 2, 2017.
In his third year of eligibility, from Cole Harbour, N.S., Cluett tied the AUS all-time record for passing completions in a single game, posting 36 during Acadiaās 25-10 win Saturday over the Bishopās Gaiters.
He tied the conference record set by former Acadia standout Keith Lockwood in a game versus McGill on Sept. 22, 2007.
Cluett completed 36 of 44 attempts for 302 yards in the air and two touchdowns, with no interceptions in the win.

Acadia Axemen linebacker Bailey Feltmate has been named the AUS football defensive player of the week.
A second-year science student from Moncton, N.B., Feltmate had 10 solo tackles and five assisted tackles as the Axemen downed the Bishopās Gaiters 25-10 in their home opener Saturday in Wolfville, N.S.
Among these were three tackles for a loss of 10 total yards, including a sack for a loss of six yards. He also had a pass breakup.
Special Teams Player of the Week

St. Francis Xavier X-Men receiver Kaion Julien-Grant has been named the AUS football special teams player of the week.
A second-year human kinetics student from Toronto, Julien-Grant had five punt returns for 110 yards (averaging 22.0 yards per return) in StFXās 37-0 win over Mount Allison Friday night in their home opener. He also had a kickoff return for 19 yards.
Julien-Grant was also a force on offensive for the X-Men, with five receptions for 107 yards and two touchdowns, along with one rush for seven yards, totaling 243 all-purpose yards in the win. He was named the Subway Player of the Game for his efforts.

Canada West Players of the Week
Highlights:

EDMONTON ā With Week 1 of the Canada West football season in the books, the conference honoured a trio of outstanding performances Tuesday.
The first CW football players of the week were unveiled, with Calgary quarterback Adam Sinagra (offence), Regina linebacker Nick Cross (defence), and Manitoba return man Jamel Lyles (special teams) all being named winners.
Both Sinagra and Cross played starring roles for their squads in Week 1 wins ā over Alberta and UBC respectively ā while Lylesā big weekend wasnāt enough in a loss to Saskatchewan.
All three players will be back in action this weekend, as the conference returns to the field Friday night with a pair of Canada West Football Showcase televised games. Sinagra and company host Cross at McMahon Stadium in Calgary, while Saskatchewan hosts the Alberta Golden Bears in Saskatoon.
Those games can be seen on SaskTel (Saskatchewan), TELUS (Alberta and B.C.), and Bell MTS (Manitoba), while the third and final game of the weekend between Manitoba and UBC Saturday can be viewed exclusively on Canada West TV.

Third-year pivot Adam Sinagra led the defending Hardy Cup champion Calgary Dinos to a convincing Week 1 road win over the Alberta Golden Bears, as the Pointe-Claire, Que. product tossed 426 yards in Calgaryās 55-26 win.
Sinagra, who took over the No. 1 job last year when starter Jimmy Underdahl went down with injury, became the first Calgary quarterback to post a 400-yard passing game since October 31, 2015 when Andrew Buckley threw for 463 yards in the Dinos 64-28 win over Alberta.
Along with his 426 passing yards, Sinagra went 27-for-33, tossing four touchdown passes without a single interception.
Calgary returns to action Friday night (5:30 p.m. MDT), as the Regina Rams travel to Calgary for Week 2 of the CW season.

What a debut it was for Nick Cross as a Regina Ram.
Cross, who became the first Rams rookie to start a season opener directly out of high school since Jamir Walker in 2008, made it a night to remember with a team-high 7.5 tackles, including a sack. He also added a pass breakup in Reginaās 36-20 home win against the UBC Thunderbirds.
A prized recruit out of Reginaās Dr. Martin LeBoldus High School, cross played a major role defensively for the Rams, who shut down the T-Birds, specifically UBCās aerial attack, as quarterback Michael OāConnor was held to a career low 155 passing yards.

New year, same spark from Jamel Lyles for the Manitoba Bisons.
The 2015 CW Rookie of the Year, who spent last year at the junior level with the Westshore Rebels, made his Canada West return Week 1 for the Herd against the Saskatchewan Huskies and looked much like he did two seasons ago.
Lyles did it all for the Bisons, registering 81 rushing yards, 23 receiving yards, and 121 kickoff return yards. Thanks to his big return day, which featured a 49-yarder, Lyles is the conference special teams player of the week.
Despite his effort coming in a 44-23 setback, Lyles started his season on the right foot individually, taking the early conference lead in all-purpose yards with 218.
Manitoba looks to even their record this Saturday in Vancouver (1 p.m. PDT) against UBC.

Highlights:
Third-year running back Jean-Guy Rimpel carried the ball 28 times for 171 yards and a touchdown to help the Concordia Stingers defeat the Sherbrooke Vert & Or 23-22 Thursday night. He averaged an impressive 6.1 yards a carry. Rimpel was the top offensive threat in the RSEQ in Week 2 and rushed for more than double the yards of his closest rival.
Rimpel was instrumental in securing a historic victory for the Stingers who won for the first time at Stade de l’UniversitĆ© de Sherbrooke since the Vert & Or revived their football program in 2003.

OUA Players of the Week
BURLINGTON, Ont. – The following athletes have been named Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Football Players of the Week for the period ending Sept 5, 2017.
Third-year defensive back Jordan Gillespie came up with two big plays, accumulating five tackles, one fumble recovery and one interception for a touchdown in leading the Toronto Varsity Blues to a 19-12 victory over the Windsor Lancers on Monday night.
After two lightning delays at Varsity Stadium, Gillespie sparked Toronto’s defensive corps. The human biology major from Whitby, Ont., notched the eventual winning touchdown early in the fourth quarter with a 42-yard pick six to give Toronto a 19-6 advantage with 11:11 remaining in the game.
He also recovered a Lancers fumble in U of T’s end zone, preventing Windsor from tying the game at 7-7 late in the second quarter.
In two games so far this year, he has 11 tackles on the season and two pass breakups.
SPECIAL TEAMS: Jackson Bennett (Cumberland, Ont) Ā – 5thĀ yr ā Ottawa
For the second week in a row, an Ottawa Gee-Gees player takes home the Special Teams Player of the Week. Following on the heels of teammate Lewis Ward, who went 6 of 8 to win the award the previous week, Jackson Bennett is this week’s winner.
The only had one kick return the entire game, but that single return was a game-changing play. Following a Nick LIberatore field goal that increased Queen’s lead to 13-6 with 1:59 left in the game, Bennett awaited just outside the Gee-Gees endzone.
The following kickoff produced one of the great early highlights of the OUA football season, as Bennett’s elite speed was on full display. The went 99 yards to the house for the game-winning touchdown, giving Ottawa a one point victory over Queens’ to improve to 2-0 on the season.
Bennett was named to the OUA All-Rookie Team in 2014-15, and last season was named a Second Team All-Star.
The Gee-Gees look to move to 3-0 on the season when they head to Toronto this Saturday to take on the 0-2 York Lions.
