U Sports POW (10): Henry, Landry, Hope named

Alberta receiver Tylor Henry, Alberta defensive back Tak Landry and Saint Mary’s kicker Brian Hope are U SPORTS Football Players of the Week, for the period ending October 29, 2017.

Henry, a fifth-year receiver put on a pass catching show for the ages Saturday in Alberta’s 53-3 win over the Calgary Dinos, as the veteran receiver posted 159 receiving yards on nine catches. Most impressive for Henry were his four touchdown receptions – an Alberta program record. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers draft pick played a central role in helping the Bears clinch their first post-season berth since 2010, as the Bears earned their first victory over the Dinos in nearly a decade.

Also, big for the Bears in their clutch win was Landry. The defensive back was all over the field for the Bears registering 10.5 tackles, a tackle for loss and four pass breakups. The Edmonton native forced a fumble, recovered a pair of fumbles, and registered an interception in the lopsided victory.

Hope, a second-year arts student from Port Coquitlam, B.C., tied the AUS all-time record for field goals made in a single game, with six made on six attempts, in Saint Mary’s 26-25 loss to Mount Allison Saturday. He also made good on his lone point-after attempt for 19 total points in the game. Hope joins current records holders Neil Ellison and Mark Dalla Riva—both former Saint Mary’s standouts. Ellison set the record with six field goals made in a single game in 1980. Dalla Riva tied his record in 1996.
