U Sports Recruiting Analysis 2017 (RSEQ): Stingers go for quality not quantity

Over the next several weeks, we will be reviewing the U Sports team’s 2017 class in order to better assess all the recruiting madnessĀ (excluding the OUA as they will be reviewed separately).

The 2017 recruiting class is very different than the first few classes that head coach Mikey Donovan and assistant, coach Pat Donovan brought into Concordia. Their first class was heavy with American prospects and transfer players only because both the DonovansĀ got their positions with the Stingers late in the recruiting cycle.

Many of these prospects did not work out and are no longer on the roster. The following classes were large and comprised of 40+ athletes, mostly from the cegep system and Ontario. The current recruiting class is very different from both the approaches mentioned above. One would get the impression that the Stingers coaching staff is looking for quality and not quantity this year as they only have 13 commits up to this point.
