ā€œI chose to commit to UBC because it felt like home. Everyone I met on my visit was super welcoming and courteous,ā€ Hogue said. ā€œThey were a young team last year, and I really feel like I can bring something to the table and help in the successes of the program.ā€

He added that, ā€œUBC has a young and driven staff who are looking to win games and get better each week, which was evident within minutes of meeting them. They praise football IQ and having a knowledge for the game, which is something I take pride in myself.

Iā€™m excited to have this staff because I know they can make me better and take my game to the next level.ā€

Hogue, who is from Victoria, BC, said that UBC has a beautiful campus that is only a boat ride away from where he is from. This means that his family can watch his games.

Alongside the football and the location, Hogue said you cannot beat the education. ā€œIā€™m very interested in UBCā€™s business program. Being a part of the program has been something Iā€™ve dreamed about for years, and Iā€™m super excited for the shot to try and get in.ā€

Hogue has been playing football for 13 years. Beginning in 2007, he spent his high school career with the Mount Douglas Rams (BCSSFA). He then joined the Westshore Rebels (CJFL). The 6ā€™4, 290lbs offensive tackle won a AAA varsity Subway Bowl in 2015. He was a AAA varsity conference and provincial all-star the following year. In 2017, he was the Rebels ā€˜rookie of the year.ā€™

In 2018 and 2019, Hogue was named the Rebelsā€™ ā€˜top offensive lineman of the year.ā€™ He was also a BCFC offensive all-star last season.

ā€œIā€™m super blessed for the opportunity to play football at the next level and further my education,ā€ he said. ā€œNone of this would be possible without my mother, and I want to take the time to thank her for the endless support and commitment to get me where I am today.ā€
