UBC makes local recruit’s dream come true

North Vancouver quarterback joins CWUAA team’s 2015 class.

Mihai Lapuste has finally fulfilled a childhood dream.

Recently, the 6’3, 205 pound quarterback from North Vancouver signed with the University of British Columbia (UBC) Thunderbirds.Β  Lapuste will join the team for the 2015 CWUAA season.

After his commitment, Lapuste issued the following statement:

β€œWell I’ve had my sights on attending UBC since the fourth grade; my parents told me that that’s where I could get the best education while staying as close to home as possible.”

β€œWhen I started playing football later on in the eighth grade, I began to stand out on the field. This is when I realized that I could seriously play for a university team. Of course that team was for the UBC Thunderbirds.Β  They not only would be able to offer me a great education, but the pride and joy to continue wearing the Handsworth blue and gold colours at UBC as well.”

β€œIt was a distant goal of mine that I’m glad was fulfilled even though at times it seemed unclear with me constantly changing positions. My senior year was a great experience full of memories and good games. I was part of a 25 man roster fighting in the western conference of the β€˜AAA’ Division which was rough on us being a smaller team. Regardless I was in charge of the offence and did my very best to compete.”

β€œWhat stood out for me at UBC was the campus and facilities. Not only is the football program working its way up the ranks, but the school itself is truly incredible. You have to really take a tour around campus for it to really sink in how beautiful the school really is.”

β€œUBC is also one of Canada’s top academic schools which will ensure I receive a diploma that I will be proud of and alongside all of that, the football programs is constantly growing and getting better. They truly stick to their punchline which is getting players a shot at the Vanier cup while equipping them with a degree that is really worth something.”

β€œI am truly proud to finally become a Thunderbird.”
