UBC offers gridiron lifeline to local recruit (VIDEO)

Steveston quarterback/safety joins CWUAA team’s 2016 class.

Tyler Moxin thought he wouldn’t have another opportunity to hit the gridiron.

After the 6’0, 175 pound quarterback/safety from Steveson, British Columbia sustained a torn ACL, he missed his entire senior season with Hugh Boyd Trojans of the British Columbia High School Football Association (BCHSFA).

Once that happened, Moxin thought he would never have another opportunity play the sport again.

However, a special opportunity came calling for him.

“I thought that university for football was no longer an option,” recalled the two-way standout.  “The process became really to find a school willing to take shot until Coach [Paul] Orazietti messaged me and asked if UBC was still in the picture and I immediately had a change of heart and signed with them within that week.”

As a result, Moxin committed to the University of British Columbia (UBC) Thunderbirds.  He will join the team for the 2016 CWUAA season.

“I chose UBC based on the great academic reputation they have as well the on field success that they had this past season,” added Moxin about his commitment.  “The other major factor was that I only live around 25 minutes from campus so I saw a great opportunity to be close to home while gaining my degree.”

“Coach [Blake] Nill is a great coach and I really look forward to learning from him as well Michael O’Connor is the best quarterback in the country so whether im catching passes from him or trying to defend them in practice I know ill be pushed to the limit everyday.”

Not only has he suited up for the Trojans, the two-way standout has also suited up for both Richmond Raiders and North Delta Longhorns during his career.

In 2014, Moxin was named BCHSFA ‘AA’ Grade 11 Player of the Year and Southern Conference Offensive MVP.
