Queen’s Gaels opened training camp Monday along with all the other OUA schools. The surprise was the return of defensive end Osie Ukwuoma. Ukwuoma has been property of the Canadian Football League’s Calgary Stampeders the past three summers. In 2009, he was put in the practice roster before returning to Queen’s to co-captain the Gaels’ Vanier Cup winning team.
In 2010, he was put on the retired list after suffering a knee injury. He returned to Queen’s to start law school, but didn’t play a down of football that season. This year he got another shot with the Stampeders but failed to make the team after playing in both exhibition games. This is his last year of CIS eligibility as he has to play his fifth season within seven years of graduating from high school.
Video hilites of training camp testing as well as interviews with QB Billy McPhee, new REC Justin Chapdelaine, K/P Dan Village, and rookie LB/DB Colton Ballou.
