University of Toronto Varsity Blues to hire defensive coordinator & assistant coach

The Faculty of Kinesiology and Physical Education at the University of Toronto is seeking an experienced and highly motivated defensive coordinator and assistant coach for the Varsity Blues football program.

The ideal candidate is committed to leading the program to national prominence within the context of an internationally recognized research and teaching university.

This is a full time, contract position renewable based on positive performance reviews.

This position is supervised by the Manager of Football Operations & Head Coach and reports to the Director Intercollegiate and High Performance Sport. Salary is commensurate with certifications,experience and a previous record of success.

Key roles and responsibilities of the position include:

-With an emphasis on defence, contributes to athlete recruitment, team selection, creating individual skill acquisition and refinement programs, tactical and technical preparation,practice planning and preparation, game preparation, management and evaluation, scouting, scheduling, evaluation framework and feedback mechanism, program evaluation, and maintenance of regular contact with athletes.

Ā· Remain current with knowledge, trends and practices that are necessary to build and maintain acompetitive program. Ensures compliance with all league regulations, and maintain positive relationships with other sport governing bodies at the local, regional, provincial, national and professional levels.

Ā· In collaboration with the Assistant Manager – Athlete Services, support and assist in implementing programs and services that support football student athletes including scholarship protocols, academic support, eligibility, doping controls and other league competition requirements.

Ā· Work in conjunction with other members of the faculty and university to support athlete performance in each of their respective areas, such as injury prevention, management and rehabilitation, strength and conditioning programs, and academic support programs.

Ā· Work to build strategic relationships with football groups in the community to foster relationships, build networks, increase visibility, increase awareness, act as a resource, enhance community engagement, build loyalty and position the incumbent and the U of T as a football leader.

Ā· The incumbent is an integral member of the Intercollegiate and High Performance Team and as such is expected to support other programs, participate in Faculty initiatives, attend events and take on annual projects as requested by the Director of Intercollegiate and High Performance Sport.

Ā· Carry out all of the above duties in a manner that is aligned with University of Toronto and Faculty of Kinesiology & Physical Education policies, procedures, and guidelines.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Ā· University degree preferably in kinesiology or physical education or equivalent experience.

Ā· A minimum of 3 years coaching experience at the collegiate level.

Ā· Fully certified NCCP Level 3 Football – equivalency considered.
