UofA stocks up on Alberta talent, adds 4

Alberta welcomes three local commits and one out-of-town commit to their team.

Petya Medvedev, an offensive lineman from Archbishop O’Leary High School, the wait is over; welcome to the University of Alberta Golden Bears.

Tanner Buchanan, a receiver from the Edmonton Huskies (CJFL), Isaiah Neil, a defensive end from Harry Ainlay High School, and Ope Oshinubi, an athlete from Robert Thirsk High School, will also be joining the Golden Bears.

Petya Medvedev

A hometown boy, Petya Medvedev of Edmonton, Alberta, is about to make his dream a reality. β€œIt’s been my goal to play for the U of A since I started playing football, so when Head Coach Morris offered me the opportunity to play for the Bears, it was a dream come true,” he said.

Medvedev, who is interested in nursing and kinesiology, didn’t need much time to make the call. β€œThe focus on having success in the classroom and the field appealed to both my parents and me. Therefore, the decision was made immediately,” he said.

While Medvedev hasn’t met the entire Golden Bears’ staff, he said he already feels like he is a part of the team. β€œI’m looking forward to being able to meet with everyone and build a relationship that will last through my post-secondary career,” he added.

The 6’3, 250lbs offensive tackle has played football for four years. In that time, he has played for the Edmonton Seahawks (CDMFA) and the Archbishop O’Leary Spartans (MEHSL). He was named as a top lineman in 2017 and was top offensive player in 2018.

Tanner Buchanan

Tanner Buchanan has spent the last three seasons with the Edmonton Huskies (CJFL) as a wide receiver and slotback. In 2018, in three regular season games, Buchanan had 13 receptions for 229 yards and two touchdowns. In his two playoff games, he had 10 receptions for 98 yards and one touchdown. Before joining the team in 2016, he played with the Paul Kane Blues (MEHSL). Standing at 6’3, 190lbs, he calls Edmonton home.

Isaiah Neil

Hailing from Edmonton, Isaiah Neil will be continuing with his career in his hometown. The 6’2, 222lbs defensive end and tackle played with the Harry Ainlay Titans (MEHSL). He was also a member of the Edmonton Chargers (CDMFA) and the Edmonton Wildcats (CJFL).

Ope Oshinubi

Ope Oshinubi spent his career playing in his hometown of Calgary, Alberta. He played with both the Robert Thirsk Comets (CHSAA) and the Calgary Cowboys (CSFA). He is 6’0, 190lbs.
