uOttawa commit returning closer to home

uOttawa adds Ottawa-area commit to their Class of 2018.

Michael Baray, a defensive lineman from Cégep de Saint-Jérôme, has had history with the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees.

Baray has been in contact with the Gee-Gees since his rookie year with Les Cheminots du Cégep de Saint-Jérôme (RSEQ Division 3). The coach who approached him then was the same coach that approached him during his cégep recruitment. Baray, however, chose a different cégep.

“He is not working there (at uOttawa) anymore since he got married and is finishing his PhD; (I) wish him luck,” Baray said. “Although it’s different coaches who officially signed me, I really think I can trust them because they are coaches with lots of experience and coaches who I think have a good idea on how to use my abilities.”

While Baray was also in the sights of Sherbrooke, he said he chose uOttawa after what they presented him and the amount of interest they showed in him. “I thought about it and it is the best place for me,” he said. “…my family at uOttawa will be closer. I felt like it was time to come back to my neighbourhood.”

Baray, who is from Gatineau, Québec, added that academically, the school was the right choice. He is interested in psychology and the Telfer School of Business. “They have great schools for that and it’s where I fit,” he said.

Standing at 6’0, 215lbs, the defensive end and outside linebacker spent two years with Les Couguars d’école polyvalente Le Carrefour (RSEQ) in high school. Baray is a two-time cégep all-star. He was also Les Couguars’ rookie of the year and best defenseman.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
