uOttawa names it’s new football coaching staff

Ottawa, March 12, 2010 – The University of Ottawa Sports Services today announced that Jean-Philippe Asselin and Sean Hall have been named as coaches of the Gee-Gees football team.
Asselin will be the head coach for the upcoming season, while Hall will serve as the assistant head coach and defensive coordinator.
Asselin and Hall, along with last year’s coaching staff, will guide the Gee-Gees for the 2010 OUA football season after Denis PichΓ© resigned from the program last month after eight years as the uOttawa head coach.
β€œWe [uOttawa Sports Services] are very fortunate to have Jean-Philippe and Sean to help lead the Gee-Gees football program in 2010, said Luc GΓ©lineau, Director of Sports Services for the University of Ottawa.
β€œBoth gentleman are from within our Gee-Gees family and bring strong leadership to their positions. Having coaches that are familiar with uOttawa’s winning tradition will make the transition significantly easier for everybody.”
Asselin served in the dual role as an assistant coach/receivers coach with uOttawa football since 2007 before getting the head coaching position with the Gee-Gees.
The 27 year old Quebec City native was a receiver for the Gee-Gees from 2003 through to 2006 before getting involved with coaching.
β€œBeing named as the new head coach for the uOttawa football team is a great honour, I feel extremely privileged,” Asselin said.
β€œI’m very excited to begin work with our staff and start preparing for the new season.”
Sean Hall, 40, is another Gee-Gees football alumni having played five seasons with uOttawa as a free safety in 1989-1990 then again from 1993-1996. The Ottawa native has been a part of the Gee-Gees coaching staff since 2001. Hall was a volunteer coach from 2001 until 2008 when he was named an assistant coach/defensive coordinator.
β€œIt’s definitely an honour to be a part of the Gee-Gees football program,” Hall said.
β€œJ.P. and I are both excited about the upcoming season. We will probably add a couple of new ideas and approaches that we feel will take the team to another level. Our plan and goal is to continue the great tradition of winning at uOttawa, we will never get away from achieving that.”
The Gee-Gees open up the 2010 season on September 6 at home against Western.
